Considering this is the only chip shop in North Berwick, or at least the only one in the town centre that I seen, the quality of this place could be a hell of a lot worse.
The chips weren't too greasy, had a bit of a crisp to them which is always good to see and is reasonably priced, again for being the only chip shop in the centre.
I tried the black pudding which I knew I shouldn't of. Quite floral and "perfumy" and not the spicy, peppery brand we are used to in the city.
Service was quick with a "get them in and get them out" approach but all in all the meal was enjoyable. Will attempt to sit in next time. -

This place came highly recommended by a local coffee shop barista, so I decided to check it out. Unfortunately, it was a VERY disappointing experience. Plain and simple - the fish was COLD and extremely OILY to the point of being soggy. And, the chips were also cold and had absolutely no flavour!
Here's the whole story. The older gentleman at the register asked if I wanted salt, vinegar, brown sauce. I said yes to all three. I don't think he put salt or vinegar on the fish and chips as they were extremely bland. He squirted some brown sauce into the corner of the container. I asked if I could have extra brown sauce, and he said he already put some in there box. But, then I explained that I would like extra sauce and asked if he had additional packets that he could give me. He said no and said that I could buy an entire bottle of HP Sauce! How ridiculous is that?!?!? I was feeling rather uncomfortable from the whole situation, but really wanted extra sauce as it was a big piece of fish. I looked around and saw some takeaway cups, so I asked if he could put some in a cup. He did, but was rather stingy with it. But, at least I got a little bit of extra sauce. I found a place to sit down near by and was really looking forward to the meal, only to open the container to find COLD FISH AND CHIPS - soggy with oil. It was so off-putting, and both the fish and the chips lacked any flavour whatsoever. Perhaps this was a one-off situation, but given how rude the man at the register was and the horrible food, I won't be giving it a second chance. -

I came across this small shop in my rambles through North Berwick, and I'm glad I did! This place is take-away only, but I found a lovely garden with benches just across the street. My fish & chips (cod) was £8.40 and the portion was so generous that I couldn't finish all the chips. After a short wait, my meal came out piping hot and delicious. The fish was tasty, battered just right, and not too greasy. The thick-cut chips were perfect, with good potato flavor coming through.

A very nice looking greasy spoon, but still a greasy spoon after all. Fish and chip shop style chips and an extensive (and unusual) pizza list are the plus points

Wow, watch out for the takeaway guy on the far right as you face the two or three restaurants of the same name. I guess he saw tourist written all over us and decided to add three plus pounds to our bill. My husband didn't notice and didn't want to go back in to get our money back. It ended up costing more than our dinner this evening. I will say that the onion rings were good, the burger mediocre and the chips just plain bad. The husband liked the sausage well enough, but the gouging tempered any enjoyment.
